Alex Fraser Park is pleased to announce that the in High School Rodeo is back in
Quesnel and will be hosting their first event at the park in May 20,21,22,23,24,
2010(check our calendar page for dates). These competitors are often members of
a multitude of rodeo associations and at least one of them holds a current BC
Record in all levels of rodeo. So don't think for a minute that high school rodeo is
just a bunch of kids goofing off trying their hand at the sport of rodeo. What, in fact,
you will see are serious competitors in each event, who are dedicated to their
event, to their sport, to their family and to their four legged partners - all wrapped in
a package called HIGH SCHOOL RODEO.
So throw on you cowboy hat, gather a cushion and come out and fill the Grand
Stands at the Alex Fraser Park and cheer - CHEER on your favourite competitor.
Lloyd Whyte said Quesnel high school students are allowed to enter events as
locals even though they weren't participating in the High School Rodeo Association
the whole year. We are trying to encourage kids to get involved; as they can earn
high school credits for being part of the rodeo. They can also be eligible for a
scholarship in their final year. And it's a great social event. Whyte said the
Association is stringent about absolutely no drugs and alcohol and getting good
grades. It's a great sport. We'd like to see Quesnel residents come out and support
the kids. Some of the kids you will see are almost pro rodeo level. It's very
competitive."
BC High School Rodeos are open to students in the Grade 9 - 12 levels.
Quesnel's High School Rodeo will include bareback, saddle bronc, breakaway
roping, tie-down roping, pole bending and bull riding to name but a few events. Top
12 in each event qualify for the High School Rodeo Finals held in Kamloops.
The top four contestants from the Finals will qualify for the Nationals.
Whyte said Quesnel High School Rodeo Club is always looking for sponsors and
